Puur Sailboats, Pure Water
I am a water-bug, playing in/on/around/under/beside every lake or ocean I find. My Mom says it’s because my Dad dunked me during bath time every day when I was a baby. Whatever the cause, I am happiest when I’m playing around the water. If I see someone polluting a lake or ocean, I get agitated because they are messing with my playground.
But, that’s such a first-world version of a water problem. Playground? 844 million people lack access to safe drinking water, and 2.3 billion lack access to a toilet. That puts my playground problem in perspective.
So, when I started thinking about creating a program of corporate social responsibility for Puur Sailboats, “pure water” was immediately the obvious theme. The basic idea was that a small portion of our water-recreation spending could be directed to a respected, efficient nonprofit bringing pure water to millions of people. It didn’t take long to decide that Water.org was the right organization for Puur to support.
Water.org is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering families through access to affordable financing and expert resources to make household water and toilet solutions a reality. Founded by Gary White and Matt Damon, Water.org pioneers market-driven financial solutions to the global water crisis — breaking down barriers to give women hope, children health, and communities bright futures.
You can find out more about Water.org at their website. Check it out; you will be impressed. The stories are compelling, and the organization is efficient in applying donations to impact the challenge of pure water for all.
As for Puur Sailboats’ commitment to pure water, it’s a simple 3-pronged approach:
1. We only sell sailboats, and we only design them for electric auxiliary motors.
2. We practice low-impact boating, and we encourage others to do the same.
3. We donate 1% of sales to Water.org, which amounts to $180 for every Puur 17 we sell.
Puur Sailboats. Pure water.
